Subject: CWM resumes search for General Secretary
Dear colleagues in ministry:
I greet you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
As you are aware, the search is on for a new General Secretary for Council for World Mission (CWM). This rather strategic position in the life of our organisation requires the prayerful discernment of all of us. We need to think deeply about the role, pray earnestly for the right person to be identified and act prudently in helping us to search for that person on whom God will place the mantle of leadership of CWM.
With this letter comes the application package for the consideration of anyone to whom God may be speaking to offer herself or himself to serve at this time. We kindly invite you to circulate this widely on all the platforms that are available to you and help us present CWM as the place of choice for anyone with the required competences and sense of call. We also invite you to actively encourage persons you know to consider expressing an interest.
This position is open to anyone from a CWM member church, or the wider ecumenical community, with the requisite qualification, skills and competences. To this end, we are looking to you to spare no effort in giving your best to CWM for such a time as this. As you know, we have developed a strategy framework to guide our work for the next ten years that calls for a passionate, justice-centred, culturally sensitive and spiritually grounded leader to guide us in our commitment to break out from the grip of Babylon and rise to life. I implore us not to leave it to chance or to assume that someone else is doing it. Please make this a personal commitment to share the news, encourage interest and pray with us for God to reveal the person for the moment. May I also suggest that if you yourself, having looked at the package, feel that God is calling you to this role, please do not hesitate to express an interest. By so doing you, and those you encourage would be availing yourselves to the discernment process.
Finally, as you know, I have only recently taken on the mantle of leadership as the Moderator of CWM. I would like to thank you for your confidence in me. On behalf of my fellow Directors and Trustees, I pledge to work with the Secretariat so that together we may serve you to the best of our ability and strength, God being our helper. As we begin our term of service, we pray that the right leader will come along to continue building on the foundation that has been laid. We promise you that we will play our part to enable her/him to be God’s instrument for the continued transformation of CWM and the relevance of the Church.
May God bless you and keep you and may God open the eyes of your heart to discern God’s will.
Yours in Christ’s service,
Rev Lydia Neshangwe
